THE LAKE DISTRICT (first of the 2016 trips)

First of all we are sorry we have been away from the blog for so long but we are back!

We are always really excited about our first camping trip of the year and 2016 is know different, when the daffodils are out we immediately start planing our 'Let's Go List'.

We planned to go earlier but we had to find some replacement accommodation, for this was the year Tent didn't make it. It limped to the end of last summer after two years of honestly alot of torrential rain plus the final nail in the coffin was probably when we it was beaten by the gail force winds on the coast of Newquay. Sadly it was leaking and broken and the love had left the little tent.
So a new, younger looking version of the old girl was found let the next tentventures begin.

THE LAKES

The lake district has always looked and sounded amazing and been on the list for a long time now, so even though snow was forecast and we only had a tent we were not afraid (s:we were afraid, but we just packed all our clothing)

We picked a campsite that sounded right up our street, it was a small holding with sheep chickens and geese. We found a spot in the corner of the field and set up our new tent for the first time.

Now we had our base camp it was time to explore the lakes, our adventure would take us to the forests, mountains and even exploring for the elusive red squirrel. We also managed to squeeze in a trip to Beatrix Potters lovely home 'hill top farm'

The lake district has undeniably some of the most beautiful landscapes and scenanries we have ever seen from towering mountains that reflect in the blue waters of its 200 lakes to the dense woodlands with its hidden waterfalls. There are hundreds of walks to explore and it is a place to escape the modern world we would often be walking in the countryside only to realise there were no people no cars and no other sounds apart from the trickling water of a nearby stream and the songs of signing birds. It truly is our home away from home we felt almost as if we belong there out in the wilderness

We love camping even in the cold. Just cooked ourself some warm food or a hot cup of tea, we woke up to frost on the tent in the mornings so anything warm was welcome.

Being National trust members is a big bonus for us it means we can explore the history and landscapes from the past whilst on our adventures, thanks to Beatrix potter the national trust look after over 4,000 acres of land in the lake district this was donated by her when she passed away she loved the lake district and the national trust, fun fact her father was the first lifetime member of the trust.

Wray castle

Beatrix potter is a very important part of the lake district she loved the lakes after her regular family trip to Scotland was cancelled and they went to the lakes instead she fell in love and spent her life there writing her books and working hard on breeding her prize winning Herdwick sheep. she left the land to the trust to look after so we could enjoy it today. hill top farm was her house and you can visit it to this day

Just the type of place you can see peter rabbit getting up to no good

When we can we like to stop and make ourself dinner or a cup of tea with our trusty camping stove so if you ever see a car with the smell of food cooking it is most likely us we never really have been interested in going to fancy restaurants we like the simple life

Another bonus of cooking whilst on the road is you can stop at some rather incredible places

The roads in the lake district are some of the best we have ever driven and also the steepest we would highly recomend driving down honister pass

Sometimes just sitting and enjoying the moment is the best part of adventure

We really did not want to leave the lakes but we had to move onto more adventures. Like beatrix potter we have fallen in love with the Lake district and will return here again to explore this wild and rugged land

If you want to know where any of these places are please ask we would love to share the places that we visit with you
