A CAMPERVAN ADVENTURE

We have always wanted to own a camper van, and in particular a VW t25.

We love them and feel they are from an era when life was at a much slower pace.

On our adventures we always get excited when we see one drive past.

Luckily for us we were in for a treat and got to stay in The Colonel for the weekend.

He is owned by a great guy called Andy and his camper van hire company Big Yellow

 Campers based in the midlands.

So a bit about him then The Colonel is a 1985, 1.9 water cooled VW T25, for any of you

fans out there wondering.

Andy bought him in a bit of a state and put alot of love and care into restoring his interior

and engine so that he could rent it out to fellow adventures across the uk.

We of course jumped at the opportunity to spend the weekend in The Colonel.

With excitement we thought about all the places we loved to go, then realised where better

to drive him than to the mountains of Snowdonia Wales one of our favourite places.

We arrived at the Big Yellow Campers van HQ and met Andy, We introduced ourselves and

felt immediately comfortable. Andy is a very genuine guy and is very passionate about his

business, he was very happy to show us around the van and how everything works making

sure we had everything we need before heading off on our adventure. Even leaving a lovely

box of treats for the road.

We hit the road and immediately fell in love with the T25, it was better than we had ever

dreamed of him being and more.

Driving down the roads and country lanes is very relaxing and he drives like a dream, you

can watch everybody else rush around in this crazy modern world whilst you sit up high in there taking

in the beautiful countryside.

Just one of the best things about him was being able to stop at any time and make

ourselves a cup of tea, even when the traffic started to build up on the motor way, we just

pulled over and got our tea on.

WE WERE IN LOVE

Colonel and the way of life the T25 can offer the adventurer... AHHH (we gaze of dreaming of him)

We arrived in Wales after a very enjoyable drive and as a bonus we were shocked how

good the fuel consumption was, he had only just used half a tank to get us there thats the

same as our car, very impressed.

We found a beautiful spot in between the mountains next to a lake and settled down for our

first night in a camper van.

Whilst the wind and rain blew a gail outside we were cosy and warm in our van

planning our adventures for the weekend.

(we must also add that when the curtains were closed, the bed was out, looking all cosy it

felt like we never left home)

Once we made our bed we lay there and really started to appreciate how amazing the t25 really is.

Its small and relatively easy to manoeuvre but you never feel cramped inside.

Its also refreshing to be able to get to a campsite and not have to set up a tent when you get

there. Just open the door get the kettle on, your home.

We awoke the next day after a very cosy sleep and open the van door to a stunning landscape

We had our cooked breakfast and headed off for a weekend of exploring the mountains.

Llyn Ogwen

The trail up to Llyn Idwal,  its an easy hike for anyone and the views were spectacular

Llyn Idwal, it was a blistery day but the landscape was worth it

The Colonel parked up next to Llyn Gwynant

Nothing beats being able to stop anywhere for a good old cup of tea i don't think it will ever get old.

The storms are heading in

Well it finally happened we got to the last day and it was so sad , We had to take the Colonel

back but we think he enjoyed his time in Wales . We had absolutely fallen in love with the

T25 its more then just a vehicle it  becomes part of the adventure. Nothing can compare to

the way it drives the smell of the engine the

sturdy feel of the wheel and the opportunity to really explore the countryside in style

We loved the colonel so much that we are even making our first vlog about our adventure

which we will link to video once we have created our new youtube channel.

If you have ever wanted to drive and experience the van life we highly recommend visiting The big yellow campers website run by a great guy, and the best experience.

Happy adventures everyone

:)
